Capabilities

The work behind the service.

Services are what a client buys. Capabilities are what makes them work — the planning, oversight, standards and coordination that sit behind every deployment.

Operational capability

What sits behind every deployment.

Protective Intelligence & Advance Planning

Work done before a movement is what makes the movement uneventful. Advances cover venues, routes, arrival and departure points, and the people and conditions expected on the day, so that decisions are made in an office rather than in a vehicle.

  • Venue and route reconnaissance
  • Threat and exposure review ahead of a movement or event
  • Arrival, departure and holding-area planning
  • Written advance reports and briefings

Off-Site Monitoring & Movement Oversight

A movement is safer when someone outside it is watching it. Scheduled check-ins, planned versus actual progress, and a defined escalation path if a check-in is missed.

  • Scheduled check-in and reporting procedure
  • Oversight of planned versus actual movement
  • Defined escalation and notification path
  • Movement and shift logs, and post-operation reporting

Integrated Medical Capability

Protection and medical capability are planned together, not bolted on. Medically trained protective personnel where the risk profile calls for it, supported by Specialized Medical Solutions.

  • Protective officers with medical training, where operationally appropriate
  • Medical planning built into the protective and journey plan
  • Nearest appropriate facility identified for routes and sites
  • Medical support for remote and extended operations
  • Training delivered through Specialized Medical Solutions

Aerial & Drone Support

Where lawful, authorised and genuinely useful, aerial support gives situational awareness ground teams cannot obtain.

  • Site and perimeter overview for assessments
  • Situational awareness for large or remote properties
  • Terrain and access review supporting route planning
  • Operated in accordance with applicable civil aviation requirements

Response & Escalation Coordination

Capability matters less than the arrangement that puts it in the right place at the right time. Who is called, in what order, and what each party does — agreed in advance.

  • Documented escalation and notification procedure
  • Coordination with existing armed response and emergency services
  • Group response capability coordinated through Weltrac where appropriate
  • Incident recording and after-action reporting

Personnel, Vetting & Standards

The service is the people. Officers are selected for judgement and bearing as much as capability, and hold the registrations their role requires under South African law.

  • PSIRA registration appropriate to the grade and role
  • Firearm competency and SAPS firearm compliance where a role is armed
  • Verification of identity, registration and training records
  • Continuation training, including medical and firearms disciplines
  • Appointment and conditions of service in line with the BCEA and LRA

Restraint

What this page deliberately does not say.

We describe what SPS can do, not how it is done. Procedure, tactics, deployment patterns and equipment holdings stay off this website.

Providers who publish that detail are advertising to the wrong audience. Specifics are discussed with clients under confidentiality, at the point where they are relevant.

Next step

What is not on this page is discussed directly with clients, under confidentiality, once there is a genuine requirement.
